How hard is it to play junior hockey? ›

The junior hockey level is one of the hardest levels for a young hockey player to adapt to. A lot of them have to move away from home, which can be hard. As these young players move up in the ranks of hockey, it just gets more difficult and intense. The players get better and the coaches get more demanding.

The goals of Junior hockey are as follows:

To provide talented young players with the opportunity to develop in an organized, structured, competitive and supervised environment. Quality Coaching. To provide considerable training time, quality coaching instruction, and concerned oversight. Social Maturity.

You could join an ice hockey club and compete, attend barrier hockey sessions to practice puck handling, skating drills and mini-game situations, or enjoy ice hockey at leisure and participate in scrimmage sessions with ice hockey players of all abilities, or attend ice hockey camps and training events.

The CJHL is an association of nine Junior A leagues: AJHL, SJHL, MJHL, SIJHL, NOJHL, OJHL, CCHL, LHJQ, and MHL. The national championship is the Centennial Cup. Unlike Major Junior players, Junior A players retain their NCAA eligibility and may go on to play college hockey in the US.

Student-athletes can begin playing junior hockey once they turn 16 years old and compete until they are 20 years old. While you can play junior hockey for five years, college coaches don't care so much about how long you participate, but rather which junior hockey league you were in.
