Clear slime is really easy to make and really fun to play with! You only need 4 simple ingredients – clear glue, water, baking soda and contact lens solution.

The slime has a lot of bubbles in it right when you make it (which might make it look a little cloudy). The trick to making crystal clear slime is to leave it untouched in a container for a few days. The bubbles in the slime disappear making it as clear as glass!

STEP 2: Add the glue

  • Pour the clear glue into the water mixture. Stir slowly until everything is combined. When you stir slowly fewer bubbles form which will make your slime more clear.

STEP 3: Add the contact solution

  • Slowly stir in the contact lens solution, again trying not to make bubbles.

  • Stir until everything is mixed. Unlike regular slime, this mixture WILL be sticky, so don't knead it with your hands.

STEP 4: Allow it to sit

  • Pour the slime into a shallow container. Cover it with a lid, or plastic wrap and allow it to sit for 2 to 5 days, or until the bubbles are gone.

  • As the slime sits, the cloudy bubbles disappear and the slime becomes perfectly clear.

  • The slime should no longer be sticky when you pick it up. If it is sticky, knead in more contact solution until it doesn't stick to your hands.

TIP #1:

  • If you want to play with the slime right away rather than waiting a few days, only add 1/3 cup water. Add more contact lens solution if needed until the slime doesn't stick to your hands. (Note: the slime will be cloudy with bubbles, not clear.)

What kind of contact lens solution activates the slime?

Check the ingredients list on the contact lens solution to make sure “Boric Acid” is listed as one of the ingredients. Without Boric Acid, the slime won’t activate.

We used Renu Fresh contact lens solution by Bausch + Lomb to make the slime you see in the photos. It’s called Renu Advanced Formula by Bausch + Lomb in the USA.

Different brands of contact solution have different amounts of Boric Acid. So if you’re using a different brand, you might need to adjust the amount of contact solution needed to activate your slime.

What kind of glue works best?

We recommend using Elmer’s Clear Glue when making this slime. If you use another brand, we can’t guarantee that you’ll get the same results. Some brands of clear glue may not actually work to make slime at all.

What can you add to clear slime?

You can add glitter, pom poms, confetti and even small toys to your clear slime. Small objects (less than 3/4 inch in size) such as shopkins, small dinosaur toys, buttons, googly eyes and beads are really fun additions that you can mix into your slime.

You can add glitter before you add the contact solution. Any of the other mix-ins you can knead into the slime after it’s made, but before it sits.

My slime is really cloudy, what happened?

If your clear slime is cloudy, it probably just means you mixed it vigorously. It only stays really clear if you’re not squishing it too much.

You can see in the photos that my slime had bubbles in it too. But after a full week of sitting in a covered container, there wasn’t a single bubble in it… until we started playing with it again!

Let your cloudly slime sit in a covered container for a few days and the bubbles will slowly disappear.

How long does it last?

Depending on how much you play with the slime, and how airtight the container you’re storing it in is, this slime will last about 1 to 3 weeks.

Just tried this recipe, however after 2 days sitting, the slime is very rubbery and breaks easily. Any idea where we went wrong? Thanks!

Hi CR – sorry to hear that. It could be that you used too much contact lens solution? Some brands may have more boric acid in them, and this can cause the slime to break off.
